See it for yourself — already now

This is not an illustration. When you load the map, it pulls directly from the same open, public sources the platform is built on: all 1,031 official bathing sites, registered discharge points and treatment plants. The register figures are the most recent annual values and classifications — not real time; only the precipitation from DMI is live. Continuous event data is exactly what version 1.0 will build.

The map only loads when you ask it to, and then fetches real register data from the Environmental Protection Agency's open WFS and PULS — it takes a moment. Note: the map interface is in Danish for now.

Built around two things that must work from day one

The data already exists — at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Environmental Portal, DMI and the municipalities. We bring it together around the two features with the greatest impact.

The overflow map

Rain-driven overflows are recorded in public registers, but effectively invisible to the public. The map shows where untreated wastewater is released during heavy rain: location, duration, responsible utility — linked to the rainfall that triggered it. Municipalities and utilities are compared fairly: with context, rain-normalised figures and room for each actor's own response.

One clear answer per beach — no sign of problems, elevated risk (our estimate) or advised against (authority) — built on the official municipal samples and the link to rain and overflows, always with the reasoning in plain language, sample date and history. We never issue a bathing warning ourselves.

The link is the point: every elevated-risk status connects to the overflows and rainfall that likely triggered it. The everyday usefulness draws people in — the documentation shows them why it looks the way it does. On top of that come alerts: subscribe to your beach, your municipality or a specific outlet, and get notified with a link to the documentation.

Accountability, not shaming: any municipality or utility mentioned can have its official response shown. Errors are corrected transparently.

Bathing water is the entry point — not the horizon

Version 1 starts where people meet the sea in everyday life: bathing water and overflows. But Denmark's marine environment is bigger than that — oxygen depletion, nutrients, algae, hazardous substances. The goal is to make the whole picture just as accessible, one layer at a time.

Phases 2 and 3 are direction, not promises. They are built in step with funding and data maturity, and always marked as planned until they are live. The order prioritises broad citizen value first, then depth and accountability, and finally prediction — so each step delivers visible value.
