Why HavVagt exists
Data on sewage overflows, bathing water quality and the aquatic environment is public — but in practice scattered across registers, portals and formats that almost no citizen can navigate. The result is that information which ought to strengthen democratic oversight and provide early warning is effectively invisible. HavVagt DK gathers it in one place, translates it into plain language and connects it, so you can see not just that something is happening, but why. The purpose is threefold: transparency, democratic oversight and early warning.
How we are organised
HavVagt DK is being established as an independent non-profit — an association with built-in safeguards around purpose and independence. There are no owners set to profit from the platform: it is owned by its purpose. Statutes and formal non-profit status are in progress and will be published here when the organisation is incorporated. Until then, the initiative runs as an open preparation project, where the foundation — concept, data validation, method and prototype — is built and documented in public.
Independence & funding
Independence is not negotiable. HavVagt DK shows no ads, has no commercial interests, and no one can pay for placement, to have data removed, or to influence how figures are shown. Operations are sought funded through foundations and philanthropic means, and dialogue with relevant foundations and organisations is ongoing. Funding sources will be published, so everyone can see who supports the work — openness about the money is part of the credibility.
Who is behind it
HavVagt DK is developed by a small project team with one shared goal: to make public environmental data genuinely usable. During the build-up, a board and a broader professional network — for example within environment, data, law and journalism — are also being sought to secure quality, independence and roots.
